Support the mission

Give to West Bengal, with confidence.

Your gift supports our mission of funding vetted development in West Bengal. Right now, that work is centered on the School of Computing, AI & Data Science at UHHS.

The giving infrastructure you'd build yourself — already built.

🏛️

US 501(c)(3) status

Your gift is tax-deductible under US law. We handle all reporting and documentation. [Status to be confirmed.]

🔍

Pre-vetted projects only

Every project we fund has cleared our five-point standard. No scatter-shot grantmaking, no unvetted recipients.

📄

Honest reporting

We publish updates on what your gift accomplished — including what fell short. No selective good-news reporting.

⚖️

Independent board

Funding decisions are made by our independent board, applying a published standard — not by donor whim or staff preference.

About the giving model.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes — Nagarik Samaj USA is a US 501(c)(3) [status to be confirmed], and gifts are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. You'll receive a written acknowledgment for tax purposes.

Can I direct my gift to a specific project?

You may express a preference for a featured project (such as the UHHS AI/DS school) when you donate. Our board considers donor preferences — but funding decisions are made at the board's discretion. This is a legal requirement for maintaining the charity's tax-exempt status and your deduction.

How does money reach projects in India?

Nagarik Samaj USA follows US cross-border grant requirements, including expenditure responsibility and/or equivalency determination as appropriate. Our funded partner, UHHS/Liver Foundation, holds FCRA registration to receive foreign contributions. Details of the cross-border mechanics are overseen by our Director of Finance & Compliance. [Confirm specifics with counsel before launch.]

What portion of my gift goes to overhead?

Nagarik Samaj USA maintains an operating reserve [percentage to be confirmed]. The board's operating reserve policy is published in our annual report. We don't say "100% passes through" — because some overhead is necessary for responsible grantmaking, and claiming otherwise would misrepresent how charitable organizations work.

How will I know what my gift accomplished?

We publish project updates on this website and via email. Updates include what the funds were used for, what changed as a result, and what we're learning — including things that fell short of expectations. You can also contact us directly.
